Iron Springs Beach Excursion

For several years I've wanted to visit Iron Springs Resort on the WA coast
In late October we made a last minute decision to spend Halloween at the Beach
and West we went!

Established in the 50's and recently remodeled,
the 'resort' consists of 20 or so small cabins on a bluff overlooking the ocean
They are very well provisioned and extremely cozy
they are also dog friendly so Poppi was able to join us!
Of course, I don't have any pictures of the cabins ... just the kids ... typical mama.

Della's favorite part was the nature trail carved thru the woods.
It was the perfect length and terrain to challenge toddlers in a positive way.
I think we conquered this hike at least a dozen time in our 2 day stay.

The fireplace and large supply of firewood was also a big hit!

The next morning we started off with another hike through the woods,
this time Huck brought along his choice in weapons.
(Granted, he didn't have much of a selection.)

We then headed back to the beach.
The normal trail was flooded so we braved a quick walk along the road!

Proud parent move remembering to bring along all the garden tools!!

The kids wandered around for a bit then promptly sat down in puddles where they remained for the next hour. Della was a bit cold -- but happy -- when we headed back.

This boy takes his digging seriously!

It was wonderful winter stormy beach weather.
Lots of rain and wind but not too cold!

He also takes his puddle jumping very seriously.

That night, instead of trick-or-treating, we did a scavenger hung for Dollar Store trinkets in the dark followed up by chocolate and caramel fondue!
Della, hyped up on sugar, wouldn't sit still for a picture.
The kids didn't seem to mind the lack of door-knocking or costume wearing.
We'll see if  I can make this a tradition for a few more years.

Our favorite special travel food ... McDonalds fries!

Even Poppi got in on the action.

Fall Garden Helpers 2015

Remember these two cute garden helpers!
Huck still had baby cheeks!
I'm darn near in tears scrolling through 'baby' pictures from 6 months ago!

My little garden helpers are growing up quickly.
They were big helpers as we prepared the garden for winter.

Huck enjoyed the fruit from our baby apple tree ...
He does love his apples!

An example of our current landscaping as designed by Huck.
Note the toy garbage truck carefully parked on my greenery.

My little helper discovered the fun of punching holes in foam board insulation.

One weekend Daddy and Della headed off on some errands
leaving Huck to help Mama clean and winterize her garden.
Huck is a dedicated helper and, once he discovered that weeding would expose all sorts of bugs and worms, he followed very closely for nearly 3 hours!

Cleaning up! He loves to watch mama run away from the hose!

Miss Della ... our puddle jumper!
