Labor Day 2012

This Labor Day weekend I was feeling a little housebound seeing as I hadn't been away from home, overnight, since Della was born ... 8 months ago! Plus, I was feeling somewhat stircrazy as we typically take a 2 week vacation in the summer to fill our rafting, camping, and long distance driving reservoirs. But this year we stayed home and played with Della who, as it turns out, doesn't really like long distance driving or really any driving in excess of 30 minutes.

So I planned the ultimate 5 day getaway (slight sarcasm) to Westport on the Washington Coast. My company has a large project in Aberdeen which is about 20 minutes from Westport so I'd heard all sorts of horror stories about this section of the coast; drugs, vagrants, horrible weather, horrible food, etc. But I'll admit it, we had a very nice time with one exception ... Della didn't sleep. We discovered afterwards that she had been cutting 2 new teeth but hindsight didn't replace 4 nights of no sleep. But we survived.

Aside from our exhaustion the weather was BEAUTIFUL! Nearly 80 on the beach, calm and sunny. Washington beaches are so much different from those I grew up with in Oregon. They are super clean and appear almost scoured. You rarely see shells, kelp, or sealife. And of course the sunshine seems slightly out of place. Also, even with a long weekend and beautiful weather there were NO crowds! We could always find a stretch of beach just for us.

We rented a vacation condo just a short walk from the beach and I dragged my mom along as a vacation/birthday gift. Della enjoyed herself alot. She loved the beach, the fluffy condo carpet, and the kitchen table.
