Baby Duck Butt

You must know what I’m referring to here. A baby duck butt is one of the cutest rear-ends in the animal world. Haven’t you seen a baby duck playing in a pond when suddenly they tilt over, the little head plunking into the water leaving their adorable butt to point for the sky? Little duck feet flailing in the air as they try to gain traction in the water? Little tail feathers waggling from side to side as they search the underwater landscape for lunch? If you haven’t experienced a baby duck butt head out to the nearest duck pond immediately … this is a mommy bucket list activity.

Right now my daughter reminds me of a baby duck. Not in the quack quack or ducky droppings way but in the really cute baby duck butt way. Della is working really, really hard on learning to crawl. She rolls over on to her belly and wiggles and squirms until her until her chubby little feet push  down on the floor forcing the roly-poly legs to lift off the ground raising her baby butt into the air. Then, as she attempts to coordinate the impossibly uncoordinated tangle of hands and feet, her perfectly round little butt waggles from side to side. As with baby duck butts you have to forcefully resist the impulse to walk over and pat the tiny butt. And, like a baby duck butt, capturing this little baby butt in the few seconds it remains in the air before toppling over is a challenge but this is sort of what it looks like.

You may disagree that baby ducks don’t have the cutest butts and I will agree that baby butts, in general, are darn cute but for me, in this moment, my daughter reminds me of a baby duck. Quack!
