Yesterday’s big news is that my 7 month old daughter’s first front upper tooth has appeared! Keep in mind that this isn’t the first tooth to appear. Apparently Della is a deciduous tooth overachiever in that her front two bottom teeth showed up at 4 months. Unlike her bottom teeth, which emerged very painfully, this first top tooth snuck in silently announcing its arrival only by biting Nana. Which means that those teething pains we thought Della was suffering from these past few months were simply fussy baby for no good reason pains. I’m sure there was something going on in her mouth to cause pain but that third tooth sure took its sweet time arriving.
At this point Della won’t let me get a good look at this newest tooth. She actually clamps her little lips down tight and glares at me. Daddy held her upside down last night to get a view! But, once the tooth slides in a bit farther I’ll try to get a picture of my little … woodchuck?
A wood chewing forest creature is an accurate representation of Della and her latest skill. Her big tooth hasn’t yet cleared the gum line completely and she’s decided to gnaw on wood. More precisely, Della tried to eat her crib last night. After putting Della to bed she worked her way up one side of her crib chewing on each rung. It’s adorable in an odd sort of way. If you know anything about my youth you’ll remember that I had many pets of the rodent variety while growing up. Porcupine, beaver, squirrel, chipmunks, guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters … you get the picture. I know first hand that rodents, all of them, like to chew on everything and this is a talent Little Miss Della is perfecting. I never figured to have a rodent for a daughter! At least she’s super cute … except when she’s chewing on me!
Sorry the pictures aren’t great but considering they are camera phone night shots they managed to capture some of the cuteness.
