Della's Week in Review ~ 09JULY2012

Della is living proof that a lot can happen in a week. Every day she surprises us with some new talent or opinion … of which she has lots. We are continually in awe of her ability to grow and change so much each and every day. The bittersweet disappearance of our infant is replaced by our enjoyment of this wonderfully entertaining and engaging baby. So, to summarize last week’s highlights, at least those I captured, here is a week in review.

Running Start!

Della does her impression of a track&field sprint start … only she forgets to move her hands. So the subsequent picture would be one of her face plant which, amazingly, she doesn’t seem to mind. When her little feet are on the wood floor she actually performs a little spin out before gaining traction for the launch. Very cute.

New food!

Della has been insistent that she be allowed to join us at the table for my lunch time visits. To keep her occupied while we eat we re-introduced rice crackers. At first she wasn’t to sure about the cracker but that second cracker dissapeared so quickly I actually scouted the floor to see if she had dropped it. I’m still not sure how she ate it so fast. I don’t think she could have swollowed it whole???

We also introduced her to the teething feeder bag in which we stuffed some very yummy cantalope. These devices are wonderful! A very child friendly handle and a chew-proof mesh bag to prevent choking. She can suck the life out of cantalope in about 5 minutes!

Welcome Home!

Nana and Della meet me at the door nearly every single day when I return from work. Early on Della didn’t quite know that she could expect to see me and would be looking at the tree, the birds, the cars, anything but mommy. But now she has it down. I’m told that she gets all excited and squirmy when Nana brings her to the door and unlocks it. Then she stretches her head around the door frame and as soon as she spots me I get a HUGE grin and her trademark squirm. I LOVE, LOVE, this part of my day! On the odd days that Daddy stops by prior to my arrival I am often welcomed home by a baby in random places such as this baby looking over fence position.

Sleeping!

Over the 4th of July we transitioned Della to a crib in her own room and while this transition has been rough on mom Della really seems to enjoy having her own space. When I check in on her I often find that she is taking advantage of the entire crib by sprawling out or rolling from one end to the other. After several weeks of waking up 3 or more times a night in her bassinet she now sleeps nearly 8 hours at a stretch. Oddly, I still wake up tired.

Hot Tubbing!

Della has been introduced to the hot tub (at a not so hot temperature.) We bought this fancy-dancy baby floater thingamajig but Della was only interested in chewing on it so we ended up mostly holding her. Her first visit (pics) was a little questionable. She enjoyed the water but seemed somewhat unsure. Her second session was much more fun. She laughed when the jets hit her belly and really enjoyed bouncing in the water and frog kicking her legs. She also did not try to drink the water nearly as often.
New Stroller
We picked up a new used stroller and headed to the local zoo to try it out. Della approves!

Baby in a Box

A closing picture just because I think it captures my two favorite people and it's adorable.
